I'm preparing for my longest train journey yet, so I launched a Kickstarter campaign.

I Ride Trains: Photographing America, by Stacey Evans
I love Stacey's project because I want to live through her vicariously. The Virginia-based photographer has made a career out of riding trains, traversing wide swaths of the American landscape in order to capture it via photographs and videos taken from rocking train car windows. She's taken fourteen trips so far, resulting in an impressive collection of imagery that explores the American landscape, and how people "co-exist with other humans, architecture, and nature." What a life! And her next trip will be her longest yet, beginning in her homebase of Charlottesville and ending all the way in Los Angeles. I'll back because I want to be there every step (train track?) of the way! — Cassie M.

Photo 11 @ Artisphere

Three of my photographs are included in Photo 2011 Annual Juried Mid-Atlantic Photo Exhibition at Artisphere in Arlington, VA. The show is on display until Sept. 10.

 My work was mentioned in a review of the show by Mark Jenkins of the Washington Post.

The juror, Amanda Maddox, is the former Associate Curator of Photography and Media Arts at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, DC.

Lone Tree at Earth Through the Lens

Lone Tree is a finalist in the Earth Through the Lens photo exhibit in the Rancho Mirage Public Library in Palm Springs California.  The exhibit is held around Earth Day and highlights the natural and human impact on the environment.  The photograph was taken onboard the Palmetto route train in South Carolina.  Here is a link and page from the digital catalog.

Virginia Arts of the Book Center Indulgences Project

I collaborate with a wonderful group of people at the Virginia Arts of the Book Center.  The "Indulgences" group project will be revealed tomorrow, Sunday, March 20, 2011.

Here are a few photos from the shop and details about the event!

Join us this Sunday afternoon, March 20, from noon to 3pm for an exhibit of our new group project, "Indulgences"! We will have certificates and refreshment at the Artbox/VABC Gallery in the Ivy Square Shopping Center. A select few books will be available for purchase. This is the perfect artist’s book to add to your collection and celebrate the 2011 Virginia Festival of the Book.

Photo Montage Workshop

Transmutation by Stacey Evans(me) is the featured artwork in my photo montage workshop.  Using photoshop we will explore layer mask, blending modes and adjustment layers to merge three photographs creating one final image.

Photo Collage Workshop

David Hockney is the featured artist in my photo collage workshop. Using Photoshop the workshop explores selection tools, layers, transforming shapes and color adjustment. Students are encouraged to complete two pieces inspired by the David Hockney artworks shown here.

Tracking People closes February 2, 2011

Tracking People, part of my TRAINSCAPES project, is on display until February 2, 2011 at the Dickinson Building on the grounds of Piedmont Virginia Community College.

I brought my parents just before the doors closed for the holidays.  The galleries are open again, Dickinson is the last building on College Drive.

Show Prep

Opening June 4, 2010 is a two person exhibition Roads and Rails at the Page Bond Gallery in Richmond.  I am the rails part of this exhibition.

In the studio we have been testing paper types, color and contrast.  Outside our grass is growing higher and higher.
