the Montage Years

Montage Period lasted from 2003-2006. It was a time of reflection about what was going on around and inside me.  I was unsure if I should move to a large city or stay in the rural landscape I know.   The rural landscape was being developed quickly.  Life was speeding up and I was trying to slow it down while I created montages.  I was also teaching photoshop at the time so the computer was a large part of my work.

before Montage

Two years after college I began creating in-camera double exposures.  I cannot remember the reason why I  started exploring double exposures maybe a happy accident.  I do remember wanting natural and man-made elements to blend textures and shapes creating a completely new image.

the Montage beginning

Working with a film scanner and photoshop I combined multi images in one frame.  The process is similar to double exposures and darkroom montages but the computer offered more advanced blending techniques.

the Digital Camera beginning

I began photographing from car windows after I bought my first digital camera in 2001. My 2.1 megapixel Olympus offered slow shutter speeds up to 16 seconds. Until this time I used only manual SLR cameras with a bulb setting which required me to count exposure times. The programed exposure times along with the ability to view the results instantly sparked a pursuit of photographing in low light with slow shutters while in motion.
